360 Vegas Review: O'Shea's @LINQ Spring 2014

Never has the death of a shittier place been so lamented by so many.  When O'Shea's was closed in 2012 to make way for the Linq project, even though it was announced it would return once the Linq project was done, people bemoaned.

Maybe people were skeptical that Caesars entertainment wouldn't keep its promise. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be the same or maybe people just really like having their shoes make that suction cup sound as they attempt to traverse across the urine and vomit covered linoleum. 

Whatever the reason, people celebrated its return. Little more than an Irish bar with a casino in it, O'Shea's made sure to bring back its staples, Beer pong, karaoke, cheep booze and gambling as well as the drunken loud vibe are alive and well. In fact, it’s been so successful that Linq promised to expand O'Shea's into the space next door left vacant due to a failed deal with a potential tenant. However that has yet to materialize.

360 Vegas Review: Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino Fall 2013

Located somewhere between luxury and value, Monte Carlo is a property with an identity issue.  Originally conceived as another Vegas themed resort, this one paying homage to her namesake in Europe, Monte Carlo offers the less affluent a chance to experience and enjoy luxury.  However the properties theme does not accurately reflect her energy.

The properties classic architecture can be enjoyed by the pool via the lazy river.  Beautiful chandeliers and stained glass ceilings resided over low to mid-limit gaming tables and fine dining can be enjoyed 50 feet away from a fast food court.  The Monte Carlo concept is almost the definition of an oxymoron, but in a good way.

Monte Carlo is fun.  It isn’t the kind of place you think of in “must do” or “you have to try” conversations.  It isn’t a destination nor does it offer anything exceptionally unique, its just fun.  Monte Carlo is like a well run McDonald’s or any popular fast food chain that offers good food at a good price.  Monte Carlo offers Vegas fun for those that don’t want to stay at Circus Circus the lowest tier properties but can’t afford to stay at the Mirage or Caesars Palace.

We all know there was a time in Las Vegas when the tallest structures on the strip were neon signage for the various casinos that adorned her.  When the word hotel was still used to describe motel rooms.  A time when the view that from the Top O the Strip at the Dunes was so unobstructed you could see that tallest building in the city at the time at 12 stories tall, the Fremont hotel and casino, on Fremont St, in case that wasn’t clear.  This week’s winner from @summacorp documents 1968 in Vegas in a way not often seen, in color.  What makes this picture even more interesting is here place in time.  When you check out this photo, keep this in mind; Circus Circus just opened, Howard Hughes will arrive in November and it will be another year Elvis begins his residency at the International.  Everything is about to change.
