PCP - 360 Vintage Vegas: The Great Consolidation of Las Vegas

*Premium Content Preview

Since the creation of modern day Las Vegas, there have always been people lamenting the good ole days, whatever that means to that individual at the time. Determining what is considered “good” is about as subjective as subjective can be.  Most people today will point to the time before the strip was primarily owned by 2 companies, MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment.  While the benefits of consolidation are obvious, potentially the best thing about it is the story of how it all happened.  To do that, we are going to have to trace back to how these assets exchanged hands before finally ending up in the corporate portfolio that are currently a part of.  To keep the story clean and the timeline defined, we are only going to focus on the majority owners and only their moves in Las Vegas.  We’re calling this, the Great Consolidation of Las Vegas

Twitpic of the week

The monologue for this week’s winner will be unique in that it gives me a chance to share some insight into what goes into Vintage Vegas research, or maybe its just a fun fact with impeccable timing.  I’m currently working on a large project to document the evolution of Fremont and the people who played a part in it. Recently, my research has led me to a connection to the owners of the various casinos that used to exist in the place known today as the Bonanza, the World's Largest Gift Shop, on the north west corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Sahara.  Almost as if they knew I was going to need it, @NeonMuseumshared a picture of two of the casinos that existed at that location for a time, MoneyTree and Honest John’s Casinos.  As previously state, research is ongoing, so that’s all I can tell you about those two casinos.  What I learn will be shared in a future Vintage Vegas episode

Twitpic of the week

Palpable, in a word, is how I would describe @jenhaught's picture and this week's "Twitpic of the week".  The view of the strip, south of Paris, at night, taken from the Eiffel Tower experience is so intense it's almost tangible, also known as the actual definition of the word Palpable.  One of the most interesting effects views like this and ones available at the Mandarin Oriental or the High Roller is, while they are stunningly beautiful, they also create an intense desire to abandon said view and become a part of it.  It reminds one of the philosophy that there are two kinds of people in the world, Astronomers and Astronauts.  Astronomers observe and enjoy space from a distance, in the safety of familiar surroundings; while an Astronaut ventures into the vast unknown to experience it.  I get the impression the majority of people who love Las Vegas are the latter, even if only in Las Vegas.

Twitpic of the week

It’s a scene unlike any in a property unlike any in Vegas.  The balcony view at Cosmopolitan may be the most breath taking in all of Vegas if not the entire world.  I can’t speak for outer space but I imagine it would rival it.  Day or night, it’s epic. Throw in a panorama photo shared by @styzzle15 and you’ll find me very aroused.  Despite Tony’s bullshit reasoning I can speak on his reasonable side and confirm that this show deems Cosmopolitan the best overall property in the Andromida Galaxy.  I know that isn’t ours but is sounds way better than one named after a fuckin candy bar.
