3 years after the 1993 Dunes implosion destroyed one of the most iconic strip marquees in Vegas history, the Neon Museum nonprofit was officially launched after 16 years of planning.  One of their goals, prevent anything like that from happening again (VegasSeven.com)

What most people don’t realize, is that, like most things, snow in Las Vegas isn’t the same as it is everywhere else.  It’s better.  Here, it's just mother nature's contribution to the spectacle.  And just like the decorations on display promoting whatever random celebration is going on that week, the following week, you’re unable to find a trace of the past.  Watching snow fall here is just as magical as it is everywhere else without any of the residual issues that come with a prolonged winter season.  @NickyFurmage shared our favorite picture of snow falling around the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign this week.  I was hoping for a great picture of Luxor covered in snow but unfortunately all that were shared looked like they were taking with a Motorola razor flip phone.

Blue Man Group marked their 10,000 show in Las Vegas last week, performing since 2000.  They are reporting that within those 10,000 shows, they’ve used 40,000 Twinkies, 350,000 marshmallows, and 50,000 gallons of Tempera Paint (Review Journal)

Before massive LED signage, it was a simpler time.  A more labor-intensive time when it was maintenances job to change out light bulbs on a properties marquee sporting thousands of them on what must have been a daily occurrence.  A time when air was something to advertise as an amenity.   When hot as fuck light bulb signage was touchable by anyone simply willing to jump.  When marquees like the Lucky Strike Club were right in your face, hovering over you, drawing you towards its blinky brilliance while the clicking of the big six wheel just inside mesmerized the dumber gamblers among us.  Thank you @summacorp for sharing a time that I simultaneously love and yet wouldn’t have been able to survive in.  For those of you unaware, the Lucky Strike Club was located next to the Golden Nugget before if was purchased in1968 and integrated into the property.

Casino Royale’s casino is 17,500 square feet, the smallest in the Vegas market that this show covers which is to say the strip; Fremont and places walk able from either.  The largest is MGM Grand at 171,000 square feet.  To compare, that means you could fit 9.77 Casino Royale’s into an MGM Grand (show research)

It’s simultaneously inspiring and depressing, beautiful and hard to look at; it’s the view outside your plane window as it slowly takes you away from the Vegas strip.  A view that can bring grown men to tears regardless of how much abuse they just suffered at the cities hands.  From this view, brought to you by @bobsmith55, you can’t see, or remember, the 6:5 blackjack, the switched out booze, the resort fees and franchise charges.  For some reason, all you see, or can think of, is opportunity fading away, right outside that tiny window and then the longing to return begins.
