E-330: Vegas Drank

Random Vegas
Famous Cheating – In July of 1968, it was discovered that the Pioneer club was using an incomplete deck of cards at a blackjack game.  Owners were fined $10k and allowed to reopen with slot machines only. (Las Vegas Behind the Tables part 2)

Oh exterior theming, how we love, and in some cases, miss thee.  I get why Imperial Palace needed remodeled; I think we can all agree on that.  Would it have been cooler if they kept the theme?  I submit the answer to almost always be yes.  Logically I’ve accepted and celebrate what they did to her.  But Harrah’s detheming from riverboat to mardi gras theme hardly requires the loss of the riverboat theme.  Oh well.  We have photography, shared this week by @las_when so we can fondly recall yesteryear while not being shackled to it when progress and evolution is required.

E-324: Peaches for You

Random Vegas
The story is legendary.  An FBI plane surveilling Tony Spilatro and friends circled so long that the plane ran out of gas and they had to make an emergency landing on the golf course, crashing into the water hazard.  This week, new owners, looking to better celebrate the history of the course, purchased that plane and reinstalled it into the water hazard permanently (8newsnow.com w/ an assist by Ted Newkirk of Access Vegas)

Favorite part about this picture is the Stardust Easter egg, in my favorite portion of the sign’s animation, the neon outline surrounding each letter, with a black background, clearly distinguishable.  I love LED but nothing is more mesmerizing to watch than animated neon and flashing light bulbs.  That said, I hope some editing was done to this picture to highlight the neon because the pedestrians are really dark at the bottom of the photo.  While I’m not afraid of the dark, I do have to say, in this picture, Westward Ho looks like one of the #1 location to get yourself mugged on the strip; thanks for the heads up @_GrandPaD Between that and bad table beats, no wonder Vegas adopted the free attraction concept.

E-321: Lake Charles Water Spout

Random Vegas
Sahara has turned the Monkey Bar, formerly at SLS, into the Tangiers, a nod to both the former name of one of Sahara’s hotel towers and the name of the fictional casino in the Martin Scorsese film “Casino”.  Although to be fair, the hotel tower had the name before it was used in the film (@VitalVegas and my big Vegas brain)

I’ll be honest...Vegas isn’t the same now that I live here.  That desperation to savor every moment and make sure its memorable enough for you to survive off of until your next opportunity to catch a neon fix, is no longer there.  The large amounts of pictures, chips/cards/dices/pens/room keys/notepads/plastic cups/branded napkins...are no longer coveted.  That’s all gone now.  Now, we can just go out and enjoy these things whenever we’d like.  Had a shitty day, let’s go to Cosmopolitan, play multiline video poker at the Chandelier while Keren plays Gems before grabbing some Secret Pizza.  Or should I get Hatti B’s?  Had a great day?  Let’s celebrate.  I’ll get reservations at Heritage steak and tickets to Beatles LOVE at the Mirage.  Oh, is a band touring?  We’ll have to keep an eye out for when they come to Vegas…because everyone comes to Vegas.  Bragging aside, we finally live in a place that feels like home AND serves as a beacon, to the coolest people, in existence, on this planet, per our own, independent study.  Thanks again to @MaverickHeli for reminding us how much better we are than all of you.
