Vegas Vic, the neon cowboy on Fremont St, is the world’s largest mechanical neon sign.  However, it hasn’t worked since 2006.

Vegas Mate Review of the Week
Andrico’s June 23rd review of Cirques new show at Mandalay Bay Michael Jackson ONE – 5/5 chips

Twitpic of the week

This week’s winner is another from @dribbleglass, this time of the exterior renovations of the Quad.  This picture isn’t like most that win.  It’s not an iconic image captured in our minds eye represented physically via photography.  Nor is it a unique angle of something you’ve seen dozens of times but still somehow missed.  It’s history in the making.  It captures the end of an era.  The photo shows how the old IP strip frontage pagoda, an image everyone who listens to this show can immediately imagine, is almost completely gone, replaced by the new Quad exterior.  Whether you like what it will look like or not is immaterial.  It’s also exciting to see a property, at center strip, go through a complete remodel/retheming especially in a city that has made a name for itself by just blowing things up and replacing them.  It’s a special time in Vegas watching the Fitz become the D, IP become the Quad and Bill’s Gambling Hall become Gansavoort and I think this shot does a great job of illustrating that.
