Random Vegas - Most famous run at roulette happened in 1875 at the Monte Carlo Casino.   Joseph Jagger (British enginer) noticed the wheel was slightly off center and caused a group of 9 numbers to hit more frequently than normal.  Known as “the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo.  Before he was done, he won $700,000.  Today, people who try to cheat a roulette use concealed computers that use physics to track the speed of the ball to determine the mostly likely number it will land on.
Vegas Mate Review of the Week - Christopher’s Jan 23rd Review of All American Bar & Grille @The Rio – 4/5 chips

Twitpic of the Week

This week’s winner goes to @marcknowlton for his stunning picture of south strip from the balcony of his room as Cosmopolitan.  This picture captures Veer, Mandarin, Monte Carlo, MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor & Mandalay Bay at night.  I particularly love Veer in this picture.  The glass on the towers seems to shimmer gold at night and it looks amazing.  It’s the kind of picture that makes you long for your next trip to Vegas.

E-31: Throwing Cabbage

Random Vegas - When the Stardust opened, it was the largest hotel in the world with the largest electric marquee in the world: 216 feet long, 27 feet high, composed of 6 miles of wiring and 7,100 feet of neon tubing. By compression, a American football field is 300 feet long.  (Casino Player Magazine)

This week’s winner is, once again, @Jaimem26.  This time, it’s his picture of Mid Strip facing north at night.  It grabs pieces of Flaming, Imperial Palace, Harrah’s Venetian, Caesars, Mirage and Treasure Island.  My favorite part of this picture is that he captured the Mirage Volcano, mid eruption.   This guy is so talented and if he keeps winner, we are gonna have to retire him or give him his own segment on the show or something. It’s a great picture and we are thrilled to add it to our collection.

E-30: Snowboard Hero

Random Vegas - Luxor’s pyramid is 36-stories tall.  30 stories are rooms about the casino and the last 6 stories house the 39 Xenon lights that make up the beam. (@luxorlv)

This week’s winner goes to @VegasCasinoInfo.com for their blast from the past picture of the Stardust sign at night.  The Stardust was a property I never had the pleasure of staying.  Even thought by the time I started going to Vegas, it was a shadow of its former self, it was still a piece of Vegas history.  This picture really brought back some fond memories as well as a little sting considering the problems the north end of the strip is in now and what has become of the land the Stardust was on.  I’ve been able to visit this iconic sign at the Neon Boneyard but it was a welcomed reminder of what she looked like at night.

E-29: Cabana Fee Falatio

Random Vegas -  The iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” Sign was never copywrited which means the designer; Betty Willis hasn’t received a penny of royalties from the thousands of pieces of merchandise that use the image since it was installed in 1959.  Betty considers her design a gift to the city of Las Vegas. This week’s winner goes to friend of the show @Jaimem26 for his pic of Venetian at 6 in the morning and completely empty.  The picture not only looks amazing because it captures a large portion of the property in the shot but it looks almost apocalyptic since it has no people in it.  @Jaimem26 had several pictures from that day’s trip of locations all over the strip normally overflowing with people completely empty including around the Fountains of Bellagio.  We choose this picture as the winner because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of Venetian look as good as this.

This week’s winner goes to our 1st 3-time winner @mhbroadhurst for another amazing picture he took on his helicopter ride of Vegas.  This picture is a day shot of Fremont St and disproves my previous belief that Fremont St was not pretty to look at in the daylight.  Apparently, you just needed the right angle because this is awesome.  After seeing Vegas from a helicopter via these pictures, I’m seriously thinking about taking a helicopter ride myself.  Thanks again to @mhbroadhurst for once again making it incredibly difficult to select this week’s “Twitpic of the week”.
