360 Vintage Vegas: Billy Wilkerson

Billy Wilkerson

History hasn’t been fair to Billy Wilkerson.  For years, a myth has lived in romantic Hollywood lour that Bugsy Siegel is the father of modern Vegas.  When in truth, it was stolen and ruined by the notorious gangster who caused the project to cost 6 times more than its original projected cost.  When it finally opened, it was a disaster of such catastrophic proportions that his partners in the mafia had him killed.  Now it is time to set the record straight about the real man behind the Flamingo.

E-24: Moist & Aromatic

Random Vegas - There are 42,162 light bulbs in the Four Queens Building signage. (@4Queenslv)
Vegas Mate Review of the Week - Jason’s Nov 18th review of Bellagio – 3/5 chips

Twitpic of the Week

This week’s winner comes to us from @MO_lasvegas (Mandarin Oriental at City Center) for their picture of the lobby at the property.  This is the 2nd time Mandarin has won twitpic of the week with a picture of a public space at the property.  Mandarin’s decor and motif are just stunning and it pretty accurately demonstrates the kind of experience you will encounter throughout the rest of the property as well as City Center.  We love the picture and are thrilled to add it to our collection.

E-23: The Jordan Show

Random Vegas - Statistically numbers 4/10, 5/9 & 6/8 have equal chance of being rolled in craps.  If one is point, bet on the other number also.  (Viceloungeol twitter)

Vegas Mate Review of the Week - Curtis for his 11/7 review of Bill’s Steakhouse @Bill’s Gambling Hall and Saloon – 5/5 chips

Twitpic of the Week

This week's winner comes to us from @dribbleglass, friend of the show as well as the man behind PulseofVegas Blog.  The picture is part of a story the blog did called 5 Fun Things you can do at Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon.  One of the tips was the ability to get some really cool pics of the strip from the pedestrian bridge and escalators by them including this week’s winner.  This is a photo of Bill’s and Bally’s at night and it is one of the pictures that immediately took to Vegas in my mind.  I’ve been at that exact location and I’ve enjoyed those views and they are stunning.  Every once in a while, we see a picture that we know is going to win pic of the week and this was one of them. It’s a great picture and we are thrilled to add it to our “Twitpic of the Week” collection.

E-22: Bryan in Vegas

Random Vegas - If you play video poker at a normal rate of 500 hands an hour, you should average one royal flush every 62 hours. (Casino Player Magazine)

Vegas Mate Review of the Week - Angie from Calgary for her Oct 29th, review of Carrot Top @Luxor - 5/5 chips

Twitpic of the Week

This week’s winner comes to us from @XSlasvegas for their pictures of the crowd at the Oct 31st Deadmau5 performance at the nightclub.  The photo really captures the essence of the mania and massive popularity of the club scene in Las Vegas.  As is typical at XS, the place is absolutely packed, almost to a point where you wonder if they aren’t violating some sort of fire code.  The candelabra’s and chandeliers play well in stark contrast to the laser lights and green stage lighting.  It’s an amazing picture and the 2nd time Deadmau5 has been feature in a Twitpic of the week.
